Welcome to Warley Park Golf Club Ladies Section. We hope you will enjoy playing golf with us and hope that the following information will be of use to you.
Our Ladies Section is run by an elected committee under the leadership of the Ladies Captain and we are wholly responsible for our own income, expenditure and fund raising. The committee comprises of the following members: – Captain, Past Captain, Vice-Captain, Handicap Secretary, Competitions Secretary, Secretary, Treasurer plus four other lady members. The Committee meets regularly and you are encouraged to direct any issues you may have, in writing, to the Lady Captain or any of the Committee members who will raise this at the next meeting.
Please note that you must observe the dress code at all times when on the course. Golf shoes may only be worn in the downstairs part of the clubhouse (changing rooms and spike bar). Dress code details can be found under rules in the members section of the main Warley Park Golf Club website (www.warleyparkgc.co.uk).
Lockers are sometimes available to rent - please contact the office for availability. Please do not leave any valuables unattended in the changing room.
Wednesday is the main competitions day. We have tee times allocated for us on this morning.
(from 9.30am winter and 9.00am summer).
These ladies meet on Saturday mornings (from 11am winter and 12 noon summer). There are tee times booked for competitions.
In our changing room there is a main competition notice board where all the opening and closing dates for our competitions are listed (this is also displayed on our website). It will also show any information relevant to the current competitions. A sheet will also be available for players to sign should they require a partner for any of the pairs competitions.
There are also two other notice boards which display team notices, county news and details of the committee personnel.
The ladies section has its own website (www.warleyladies.co.uk) which will include the opening and closing dates for competitions, results, competition diary, knockout and match draws etc
If you have previously been a playing member elsewhere, your handicap will come with you. If, however, you do not have a handicap or are new to golf, you will need to obtain one before entering competitions. In order to do this you will need to submit sufficient cards to provide scores for 54 holes of golf, which can be 9 hole or 18 hole scores. Once you have submitted these scores the Handicap Committee will allot you a handicap based on the level you have achieved. When you have your handicap, we would encourage you to join us in our competitions, however we would ask you to aim for a score of around 120 as a benchmark before entering stroke play and drawn competitions.
On the Course
The Ladies Captain and Club Captain have priority on the course at all times.
We would recommend that you arrive at the club at least 30 minutes before your tee-off time. This will enable you to prepare your clubs and yourself and arrive on the tee five minutes before your allotted tee-off time.
Please check on the outside board for tee closures and adhere to these when they are provided.
Social golfers should always give priority to members who are playing in a match or competition.
As a general rule ladies should commence play on the front 9 if open and free in preference to the back 9 as this will avoid interference with other players. All members should uphold this. The alternate rule on the 10th tee is really for players coming off Childerditch and the front 9. If in doubt, please consult with the Pro Shop.
When play has commenced you must keep up with the group in front. If a match fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, the game behind should be called through. Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found. They should not search for more than five minutes before doing so.
Please be sure to respect the etiquette and rules of golf whilst on the course, this will ensure your safety and enjoyment of the game.
In our changing room is a large black lever-arch file clearly labelled "Competition Guidelines". You are encouraged to read these guidelines for every competition. Please do not remove this from the changing room.
Our club operates an electronic terminal system for the entry and payment of the majority of competitions (the exceptions will be by entry on a poster on the noticeboard in the changing room and payment via placing money in an envelope in to the box). In order to use the terminal you must obtain a Competition Charge Card from Keith Regan the Members Administration Secretary.
The system is fairly easy to operate but any new members will be given full instructions.
Entry for all competitions opens 6 weeks in advance and the fee payable is clearly shown on the system. On the day of the competition you must sign in to the terminal to register your intention to play. Once your round is completed you will then need to sign in to the system again, input your scores, after checking that you card is completed correctly and signed by yourself and your playing partner, and then place your scorecard in the box provided next to the terminal.
We have both drawn and non-drawn competitions. For the drawn competitions the draw will be done 2 weeks in advance and will be e mailed out to all participants. Please ensure you have the e mail address [email protected] set as a contact to make sure you receive notifications. For non-drawn competitions you will be able to select your tee time on entry.
Reserves for Competitions
Should a competition be full or you have missed a closure date please contact Chris Polden and advise her of your desire to compete and if a vacancy arises she can enter you into the field accordingly.
Withdrawing from a Competition
Drawn Competitions - it is possible to withdraw yourself before the draw is done on the terminal and a refund will be credited back on to your card. After the draw has been done you must contact the Competition Secretary Chris Polden to advise her that you will not be playing. Failure to advise Chris Polden (or if she is not available, the Lady Captain or Secretary) will result in disqualification from the next two drawn competions. No refund will be given once the draw has been made except in exceptional circumstances. If you wish to cancel on the day and cannot contact any of the above mentioned please call the Pro-shop who will pass a message on.
If you do withdraw after the draw has been done please also contact your playing partners to apologise.
Medals, Stableford and other Competitions - These competitions are not drawn. You enter on the terminal against a tee time. You can withdraw any time on the terminal but a refund will only be given up to 48 hours before the competition. It is recommended that out of politeness you notify your playing partners if you are removing your name from the competition.
Social Events and Functions
Throughout the year the Club has many social events and functions which are always clearly advertised on the main club notice board which is at the bottom of the stairs, these include Quiz Nights, BBQ’s etc.
In addition there are many social activities arranged within the Ladies Section.
